Theology on Tap, Series #11
The Rev'd Patrick Gray
Thursday December 21, 2006

Theology On Tap logoIf you are a young adult interested in learning about and discussing issues involving Christian faith, in a casual relaxed atmosphere, then Theology on Tap is for you!

In this series we continue to look at “The Seven Deadly Sins” which features:

  • January 9

    Pride

    Dr. Tom Howard

The old (original) sin of Pride lurks at the root of almost every fault we mortals have. To go after this topic is to subject oneself to a lot of jolts. But our freedom, not to mention our soul's eternal welfare, hangs upon what we do about it.

Doctor Tom Howard taught at Gordon College for fifteen years, and then at St. John's Seminary, Boston, for another fifteen. He is now retired.

  • January 16

    Envy

    The Rev'd Truman Welch

The Reverend George Truman Welch is rector of the Episcopal Parish of the Good Shepherd in Waban and is expert in all the Seven Deadly Sins, but envy is his favorite.

  • January 23

    Avarice

    Dr. Ian DeWeese-Boyd

  • January 30

    Gluttony

    The Rev'd Dr. Andrew Blume

Eating is arguably the primary way in which humans socialize with each other, build and maintin community (with each other and with God), and build and maintain our bodies. Marking times when we eat and do not eat have been used by us to recognise and experience periods of joy and sorrow and as part of our relationship with the God who loves and cares for us. The sin of Glutony, then, is a complex matter and, like lust, goes to the very heart of being human.

The Rev'd Dr Andrew C. Blume, a curate at the Advent, is a cultural historian and theologian who also loves to eat and cook and share meals with friends (new and old).

So make sure that you're at The Hampshire House located 84 Beacon Street (above Cheers Bar) in Boston, starting Tuesday, January 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, at 7 PM.
